Bluepoint Games’ stunning conversion of Ico And Shadow Of The Colossus is now available to buy on PS3.
Ico is a magnificent adventure that has you rescuing a young girl called Yorda from fiendish shadow monsters, while Shadow Of The Colossus has you hunting down 16 huge Colossi. Both games are absolutely senstational, with the latter pushing the PS2 to its technical limits.
Both games have been suitably overhauled now, with stable frame-rates and superb details, as well as a number of interesting extras. Unlike similar compilations, these are a genuine improvement over the PS2 originals and should be added to any gamer’s collection.
Here’s hoping that Bluepoint’s incoming Metal Gear Collection is just as good.

With all the high-defintion remakes on the way, it’s refreshing to learn that it’s not only PS2 games getting the HD treatment.
Søren Borgquist is currently putting the finishing touches to his Spectrum remake of Dingo. First released in arcades in 1982, it’s an obscure game by Chris and Tim Stamper of Ultimate: Play the Game fame.
Søren’s remake not only look like a faithful port of the fun game, but he’s also managed to rope in ex-Ocean graphics wiz Mark Jones to help as well. The game will be shown of at this year’s Replay event and will be reviewed in a later issue of Retro Gamer.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, you’re probably aware that Electronic Arts is resurrecting Syndicate.
It’s being created by Starbreeze Studios and will be taking the form of a first-person shooter. This has predictably kicked off a huge shitstorm on the internet, with people flatly stating that they won’t be buying it and that it’s bound to be rubbish.
While we’re of the agreement that a first-person viewpoint seems strange, we’re not going to write Syndicate off any time soon. After all, Starbreeze has made some great shooters within the genre, and, with a little careful planning, it would be relatively easy to emulate many key aspects of the original game in the new viewpoint.
Hired Guns on the Amiga proved it was perfectly possible to create a Syndicate style game using a first-person viewpoint and we’ve only seen teaser screens at the moment. Rather than spout bile and venom, we’re going to sit tight and reserve our judgement until we’ve seen some actual gameplay. Our advice is that you do the same.

Sega’s lovely PR, Stefan McGarry told me about a new digital release from them called Renegade Ops. It’s literally just come out on Xbox Live Arcade and is a twinstick shooter. Now admittedly, there are plenty of these already on the service, but Renegade Ops does look like a hell of a lot of fun.
It appears to be based on the classic Konami game Jackal and has some really insane over-the-top explosions in it. While it plays like an old school shooter from the Eighties, it has lots of cool new gameplay mehcanics like a skill tree.
Available now for 1200 points, we’ll be reviewing Renegade Ops in the very next issue of the magazine.

Finally, after months and months of waiting we’ve finally got our hands on Treasure’s Radiant Silvergun.
As expected it’s a great port of the amazing arcade/Saturn game and we’re pleased to say that it’s still as good as its ever been. Despite Cave having a recent stranglehold on the shoot-”em-up genre now, it’s clear to see that Treasure is still a master of the craft.
Radiant Silvergun is now available for 1200 points (roufghly £10.60). While this might seem a little expensive, we’d like to remind you that it’s still one of the greatest shooters of all time and that a Saturn version will cost well over £100, making a tenner a real bargain.
You can expect a making of the original Radiant Silvergun in issue 96 of Retro Gamer.
