Alien Breed: ‘Dead Space meets Diablo’
Team 17 today posted the first shots from it’s Unreal 3-powered XBLA update of the classic Amiga top-down shooter.
In the latest issue of games™, studio director Martyn Brown said of the game: “We’re really proud of what we’ve done. It’s a title we’ve wanted to do for a long time and it’s very exciting to finally be doing it.”
Team 17 are still best known for the Worms franchise, and the studio has also worked on other publishers IPs, but Brown knows which he prefers. “There’s a gulf of difference between something that’s our own and something that isn’t. We’ve ended up with something that’s kind of a mish-mash of Dead Space and Diablo III, which is a really nice place to be.”
Look out for a preview in the forthcoming issue of games™.

I second that! I want a version for my PSP and would love to see that or the original series on iPhone. If the device can handle Wolfenstein with no issues then Alien Breed 3D 1 & 2 should be no problems. Probably run it at a faster frame rate than my Amiga too …

michaelf,
Hey, Not sure about Alien Breed 3D 1, but Alien Breed 3D 2 was slow even on a 68060! I do reckon the iphone could handle Alien Breed 3D 2 no problems, but it’s a lot more complex than Wolfenstien, closer to the quake engine by the looks of it. (Support for proper 3D, and 3D enemies, even though they were all 2D apart from the end boss).

It’s been 10 years since the last Diablo series game was released… hopefully we won’t have to wait that long for the first expansion.. Technically I’ve waited half my life for Diablo 3.. another year won’t kill any of us. Blizzard’s making the game good enough to be played by millions so it’s worth the wait.
