For many the sad demise of Free Radical in 2009 also marked that of the Timesplitters franchise. However, when the ashes of the studio were picked up by Crytek hopes for the future of the series were lifted.
It seems rarely does a month go by without some mention of Crytek possibly resurrecting Timesplitters. However, while the studio’s president Cevat Yerli has been very open about his love for the franchise, he’s also been frank about his concerns of whether the demand to resurrect it is strong enough.
To answer this, one fan has started an online petition asking others to voice their desire for a Timesplitters HD Collection. So far interest in the petition, which is asking for 30,000 backers, has been slow in coming, something which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Yerli.
“Unfortunately the petition doesn’t look that convincing,” said Yerli in an interview with Game Informer, “If the petition picks up it will be an even better argument for us.”
Yerli clearly wants to see the series resurrected, but only if enough demand for that to happen is proven.
“At a personal level, I’m a big fan of Timesplitters 2. For me, I would love to see the game out there, as a newborn HD version or what not. I definitely would love to see it.
“But the case of turning this into a business decision is still difficult, despite the fact that there was a Twitter request feed to test the waters. And now the petition, it just seems to be as we expected, as it was when it was Free Radical.”
So there you have it, if you want Timesplitters HD to happen you’d best get your voice heard. Especially as we know Crytek is listening with interest.
