Vectrexing on your iPad with Vectrex Regeneration

Vectrex emulator from Rantmedia Games coming soon to Apple smartphones and tablets

Released 30 years ago, the Vectrex brought believable vector graphics into people’s homes via a tidy, self-contained console that looked like a mini arcade cabinet from a post-apocalyptic future.

Also notable for being the first console to feature analog joysticks, the Vectrex is a slick and unique console, and despite its small library of games is also very collectable; helped by it enjoying a dedicated community of fans and busy homebrew scene.

The only drawback though is they can bit on the pricey side (a unit will typically set you back around £100+). Therefore, if you’ve always been a bit Vectrex-curious but don’t fancy dropping the cash on a machine then Vectrex Regeneration, which emulates Vectrex games on Apple smartphones and tablets, sounds like the perfect app for you.

Here’s some details:

  • App includes over 20 classic Vectrex games, with more available, including homebrew indie titles, via in-app purchases (IAP).
  • Compatible with iCade.
  • GameCenter functionality.
  • Two-player versus mode across different devices, iPhone and iPad.
  • ‘Autofire pack’ available through IAP to offer users an edge in games.

Though no release date has been announced yet, Rantmedia say that the app is at the finishing touches stage. Check their Twitter feed for more updates.
