Jet Set Radio To Hit iOS And Android

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

Jet Set Radio is heading to even more formats.

Sega has just revealed that its popular Dreamcast game will also be heading to iPhone, iPad and Android devices, in addition to being released in PS3, PC, Xbox 360 and PS Vita.

New additions will include the ability to take pictures from your photo library and use them for graffiti tags, as well as the ability to use OpenFeint. Retina display will also be supported, meaning the graphics should look absolutely sensational on the devices that support it.

We’re not too sure how the core controls will transfer across (although the tagging of graffiti should be fairly straightforward) but this news is bound to please any iOS owners who have been jealously looking at the other versions that were available. Jet Set Radio will be out later in the year.

OUYA Receives Kickstarter Funding

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

We don’t usually get excited about new hardware, but OUYA is an extremely interesting proposition for Retro Gamers.

It’s a project by Yves Behar, Amol Sarva and Ed Fries, which has the potential to revolutionise the way we play games. OUYA is a new console driven by Android technology that will connect directly to your television. The kicker is that the team is determined to make it for $99 and that the team wants homebrew coders to get behind the device, allowing them to tap into the coding revolution that once powered the Eighties and very early Nineties.

OUYA will be an open game console and the machine is being made with open screws so that it can be easily hackable by anyone who wants to do so. Needless to say OUYA is already gaining a lot of interest from the retro community, due to the sheer possibilities that it offers from an emulation point of view. It’s gaining the interest of modern gamers as well, with its $950,000 asking funds already being smashed (it’s currently on $3,784,863 with 27 days to go.

Needless to say, we’ll certainly be keeping our eyes on this.
