Capcom Reveal Capcom Arcade Cabinet

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

The full list of classic games in Capcom’s Capcom Arcade Cabinet have finally been announced.

The Game Room-styled platform will feature staggered releases of classic arcade games from Capcom’s 30-year old vaults. Games will be released individually and in packs and will feature such desired settings as dip-switches and online play.

PS3 owners will be able to post gameplay video on Youtube, while Xbox 360 owners will get to show their finest moments on FaceBook. There will also be unlockable art bonuses and other goodies.

Each pack will consist of three classic arcade games and cost either £4.99 on PSN or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live Arcade. A demo of Black Tiger will also be available to play.

Here are the announced packs

Game Pack 1

Black Tiger, Avengers, 1943: The Battle Of Midway

Game Pack 2

Ghosts ‘ Goblins, Gun Smoke, Section Z

Game Pack 3

Side Arms, Legendary Wings, Trojan

Game Pack 4

Commando, The Speed Rumbler, Exed Eyes

Game Pack 5

1942, SonSon, Pirate Ship Higemaru

While all the games have appeared on past compilations, this is the first time they’ve appeared on current gen consoles. The prices are sensibly enough priced to make many consider double dipping, so here’s hoping Capcom announce more, newer games in the future.

Abe’s Oddysee To Get HD Treatment

Monday, October 1st, 2012

It’s one of the worst kept secrets in recent gaming history, but Just Add Water have finally revealed its latest Oddworld game.

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – New ‘N Tasty will be released in the latter part of 2013 and will be a vastly updated version of the popular PC and PlayStation game.

Just Add Water’s CEO, Stewart Gilray recently revealed at the Eurogamer Expo that the remake would feature a brand new engine capable of rendering 3D environments with 2.5D gameplay, a rerecorded soundtrack and levels designed to take full advantage of the new engine.

This is the second game in the Oddworld Universe that Just Add Water have given the HD treatment to, the first being Stranger’s Wrath, so we’re greatly interested to see the final product. Expect to see a digital release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Double Dragon Neon Date Announced

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Finally, after months of speculation, Double Dragon Neon’s release date has been announced.

Created by sprite kings, Wayforward Technologies, Double Dragon Neon is a two-player scrolling fighter for Xbox 360 and PSN. Billy and Jimmy Lee’s latest adventure will cost $9.99 on PSN and 800 points on Xbox Live Arcade and will be released on 11 September on PSN and a day later for Xbox 360.

We were huge fans of A Boy And His Blob and Contra 4, so we are hoping that Wayforward will be adding the same magic to this reboot. We can’t think of a better way of celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

Pinball Arcade Now On PSN

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

After several months of waiting, the excellent Pinball Arcade is now available on PSN.

Released already for Xbox Live and iOS platforms. Pinball Arcade is an excellent new game which allows you to play classic Pinball tables on your favourite systems. The core pack costs £7.99 and includes four classic tables: Tales Of The Arabian Nights, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Black Hole, and Theatre Of Magic. Additional tables will be available to buy singularly or in packs.

One of the main reasons why we’re particularly excited about the PSN release, is that one purchase will work on both the PS3 and PlayStation Vita. This represents excellent value for money, and might explain why we’ve had to wait longer than the other versions (although it’s been available stateside for over a month now).

Needless to say you can read a review in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

New Characters Announced For Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Taking a leaf out of Capcom’s books, Sega has recently announced two new characters for its excellent looking sequel to its original Mario Kart clone.

Sega has already revealed that Skies Of Arcadia’s Vyse and Golden Axe’s Gilius Thunderhead will be in the game, but they’re recently announced that Shinobi’s Joe Musashi will be joining the game. He no longer has his trusty horse, so will instead jet around the tracks on a yellow and black quad bike. The other new character is a little weirder, but it could well be a stroke of genius on Sega’s part.

Joining Joe will be real life Daytona racer, Danica Patrick, who will be driving a Sega-themed stock car. While her inclusion seems a little odd, being a real life person, Sega’s connection with Daytona makes her inclusion a little more obvious. The popular US racer will also be promoting the game in a special Sega car, although at this stage we’ve no idea if it will boast the ability to fly or float across water.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed is out later this year. Expect more character reveals as we get closer to its release date.

Renegade Ops = Old School Fun

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Sega’s lovely PR, Stefan McGarry told me about a new digital release from them called Renegade Ops. It’s literally just come out on Xbox Live Arcade and is a twinstick shooter. Now admittedly, there are plenty of these already on the service, but Renegade Ops does look like a hell of a lot of fun.

It appears to be based on the classic Konami game Jackal and has some really insane over-the-top explosions in it. While it plays like an old school shooter from the Eighties, it has lots of cool new gameplay mehcanics like a skill tree.

Available now for 1200 points, we’ll be reviewing Renegade Ops in the very next issue of the magazine.

Based on the first two games, it features great models, a number of different scenarios to play through and all the key features from the franchise, including cover, sealing locust holes, chainsaw attacks and much, much more.
